FAQs
Is NOW Foods third party tested?
Is NOW Foods third party tested?
NOW runs its own laboratories, which hold ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from A2LA, and says it carries out more than 31,000 tests a month on raw materials, part-made batches and finished products. These cover identity, potency, microbes, pesticides and heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury). NOW also uses outside labs for duplicate and specialist tests, and its manufacturing is GMP-certified by Eurofins and Intertek. These are NOW's own statements. A single bottle is only independently certified if it carries a seal such as Informed Sport, so check the pack.
Where are NOW Foods supplements made?
Where are NOW Foods supplements made?
NOW Foods is an American company, family owned since 1968, with its head office and main plant in Bloomingdale, Illinois, and a second manufacturing site in Sparks, Nevada. Labels usually say "Made and quality tested in the USA with globally sourced ingredients" or "Packaged and quality tested in the USA". Some raw materials come from abroad: for example, the fish oil in Ultra Omega-3 is a product of Peru.
Are NOW Foods supplements halal?
Are NOW Foods supplements halal?
Many NOW products are halal certified, but not all. Certified products carry a crescent moon with a large H on the bottle (certification by ISWA). NOW says its halal gelatin capsules use beef or fish gelatin and never pork, and its softgels are usually made from beef gelatin. Ultra Omega-3, Omega-3 1000 mg and Vitamin D-3 5000 IU are listed as halal on NOW's US site, but always check for the logo on the bottle you receive.
How much EPA and DHA is in NOW Ultra Omega-3?
How much EPA and DHA is in NOW Ultra Omega-3?
Each Ultra Omega-3 softgel contains 1,000 mg of fish oil concentrate with 500 mg EPA and 250 mg DHA (as ethyl esters). The label suggests 1 softgel once or twice a day with food. It is made from anchovy oil, so it contains FISH. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart; the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA.
What is the difference between NOW Omega-3 and Ultra Omega-3?
What is the difference between NOW Omega-3 and Ultra Omega-3?
Strength per softgel. NOW Omega-3 1000 mg gives 180 mg EPA + 120 mg DHA per softgel (360 mg + 240 mg per 2-softgel serving). Ultra Omega-3 packs 500 mg EPA + 250 mg DHA into one softgel, so you take fewer capsules for the same omega-3. The current Ultra Omega-3 label lists an enteric-coated softgel. Both are molecularly distilled fish oil and contain FISH. We stock Omega-3 in 100, 200 and 500 softgels and Ultra Omega-3 in 90 and 180.
NOW Foods magnesium glycinate or citrate: what is the difference?
NOW Foods magnesium glycinate or citrate: what is the difference?
Both supply magnesium; the difference is the form and how much you get per capsule. NOW Magnesium Glycinate (Albion bisglycinate, vegan, with 2.5 mg BioPerine black pepper extract) gives 200 mg magnesium per 2 capsules. NOW Magnesium Citrate gives 400 mg per 3 capsules and also comes as tablets, softgels and powder. We don't claim one form works better than the other, so compare the magnesium per serving. The NHS says up to 400 mg a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm, and higher doses can cause diarrhoea.
How much elemental magnesium is in NOW magnesium glycinate?
How much elemental magnesium is in NOW magnesium glycinate?
NOW Magnesium Glycinate with BioPerine gives 200 mg of elemental magnesium per 2 veg capsules (about 100 mg per capsule). The 180-capsule bottle is 90 servings. The label suggests 2 capsules once or twice a day with food; two servings would be 400 mg, which is the NHS's upper guide for magnesium from supplements. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Is 50 mg of zinc too much?
Is 50 mg of zinc too much?
For most adults, yes, as a daily habit. The NHS advises not taking more than 25 mg of zinc supplements a day unless a doctor advises it, because high doses reduce how much copper the body absorbs. NOW Zinc Picolinate 50 mg and Zinc 50 mg tablets give 50 mg each, and NOW's US label says they are not intended for long-term use. L-OptiZinc (30 mg, with copper) and Zinc Glycinate (30 mg, contains SOY) are lower but still above 25 mg, so check with your GP or pharmacist first.
Is 5000 IU of vitamin D3 too much?
Is 5000 IU of vitamin D3 too much?
5000 IU is 125 mcg, which is more than the NHS upper limit of 100 mcg (4,000 IU) a day for adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women. Taking too much for a long time can raise calcium levels in the body. Only use NOW Vitamin D-3 5000 IU if your doctor has recommended that amount. For everyday use the NHS suggests 10 mcg (400 IU) a day in autumn and winter, and we also stock NOW D-3 in 400 IU, 1000 IU and 2000 IU.
How much vitamin K2 is in NOW Vitamin D3 and K2?
How much vitamin K2 is in NOW Vitamin D3 and K2?
Each NOW Vitamin D-3 & K-2 capsule gives 1000 IU (25 mcg) of vitamin D3 and 45 mcg of vitamin K2 as MK-4. The label suggests 1 capsule once or twice a day with food. Speak to your doctor before taking it if you use a blood thinner such as warfarin, because vitamin K affects how these medicines work. NOW also makes MK-7 Vitamin K-2 in 100 mcg and 300 mcg capsules.
Does NOW Probiotic-10 need to be refrigerated?
Does NOW Probiotic-10 need to be refrigerated?
Follow the label on your bottle. The current US label for Probiotic-10 says to store it in a cool, dry place, and NOW says it is formulated to deliver the stated CFU through the best-by date. Some older and UK-retailer labels say to refrigerate after opening. Whichever you have, keep it away from heat and moisture and put the lid back on straight after use.
What strains are in NOW Probiotic-10?
What strains are in NOW Probiotic-10?
Probiotic-10 contains 10 named strains: L. acidophilus La-14, B. lactis Bl-04, L. plantarum Lp-115, L. casei Lc-11, L. rhamnosus Lr-32, L. paracasei Lpc-37, B. breve Bb-18, S. thermophilus St-21, L. salivarius Ls-33 and B. longum Bl-05. We stock it in 25, 50 and 100 billion CFU per capsule, and the labels suggest 1 capsule a day between meals or on an empty stomach (up to 2 for the 25 billion). NOW says the strains are identity-checked by DNA fingerprinting. Speak to your GP first if you take medication or have a medical condition.

How many ADAM or EVE tablets should I take a day?
ADAM men's tablets: 2 a day with food (60 tablets is 30 days). ADAM softgels: 2 a day. EVE women's tablets: 3 a day with food (180 tablets is 60 days). EVE softgels: 3 a day, and EVE veg capsules: 4 a day. Both contain biotin, which can affect some blood tests. EVE contains iron, so keep it out of reach of children. Neither is a pregnancy multivitamin, and ADAM softgels include retinyl palmitate (preformed vitamin A), so ask your midwife or GP first if you are pregnant.
Is NOW creatine Creapure?
Is NOW creatine Creapure?
NOW's labels for Creatine Monohydrate Pure Powder and Micronized Creatine Monohydrate list creatine monohydrate as the only ingredient but do not name Creapure, so we don't describe them as Creapure. One serving is 1½ level teaspoons: about 5 g of the Pure Powder or 4.2 g of the Micronized. Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise; the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine. The label says adults only.
