How much EPA and DHA is in Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega?

Ultimate Omega softgels give 1280 mg total omega-3 per 2 softgels: 650 mg EPA and 450 mg DHA. Ultimate Omega liquid gives 2840 mg per 5 ml teaspoon: 1460 mg EPA and 1010 mg DHA. Both are lemon flavoured and made from anchovy and sardine oil, so they contain FISH.

How much EPA and DHA is in Ultimate Omega 2X?

Ultimate Omega 2X lists 2150 mg total omega-3 per 2 softgels: 1125 mg EPA and 875 mg DHA. GymStack currently stocks the 60-softgel Ultimate Omega 2X with Vitamin D3 (lemon) and the smaller 2X Mini softgels (1120 mg per serving). The plain 2X bottles are out of stock right now.

What is the difference between Ultimate Omega and Ultimate Omega Xtra?

Xtra is EPA-dominant and adds vitamin D3. It gives 850 mg EPA, 425 mg DHA and 1000 IU D3 per 2 softgels, compared with 650 mg EPA and 450 mg DHA (no D3) in standard Ultimate Omega. Xtra liquid gives 3400 mg total omega-3 per 5 ml. Both are lemon flavoured.

Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega liquid vs softgels: which gives more omega-3?

The liquid gives more. One 5 ml teaspoon has 2840 mg omega-3 (1460 mg EPA + 1010 mg DHA), about 2.2 times the 1280 mg in 2 softgels. Softgels are easier to take on the go and have no taste unless you bite them. Once opened, keep the liquid in the fridge and use it within 3 months.

Is Nordic Naturals fish oil burpless?

Nordic Naturals sells its oils as having no fishy aftertaste. They are lemon or strawberry flavoured and in triglyceride form, but they are not enteric-coated, so a few people still get some repeat. Taking them with a meal or splitting the dose can help. A fishy taste or smell from a fresh bottle is not normal, so contact us if you notice one.

What does Nordic Naturals lemon flavour taste like?

Ultimate Omega, Omega-3 and Omega-3D softgels and liquids are flavoured with natural lemon flavour. The liquids taste of lemon and can be stirred into juice or yoghurt. If you don't want lemon, the DHA 830 mg and Children's DHA lines are strawberry, Children's DHA Xtra is berry punch, and Prenatal DHA comes unflavoured.

Does Nordic Naturals need to be refrigerated?

Refrigerate the liquids (Ultimate Omega, Omega-3, Children's DHA, cod liver oil and Baby's DHA) after opening and use them within 3 months. Softgels and gummies should be kept in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. You can refrigerate them, but you don't have to.

What is the Children's DHA dosage by age?

Children's DHA liquid: ages 1–6, half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) with food, giving 170 mg EPA + 255 mg DHA. Children's DHA Xtra: ages 3–6, 3 mini softgels (165 mg EPA + 375 mg DHA). Omega-3 Fishies: 1 a day from age 3. Children's DHA Gummies: 1 a day from age 4. Ultimate Omega Teen: 2 mini softgels from age 12. Baby's DHA is dosed by body weight, so ask your health visitor. All of these contain FISH.

Is Nordic Naturals Algae Omega vegan?

Yes. Algae Omega is made from Schizochytrium algae oil in a plant-based capsule (modified cornstarch and carrageenan, with no gelatin or fish). It gives 195 mg EPA + 390 mg DHA per 2 softgels. Algae DHA and Prenatal DHA Vegan (500 mg DHA per 2 softgels) are also algae-based and in stock.

How much DHA is in Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA?

Prenatal DHA gives 480 mg DHA, 205 mg EPA and 400 IU (10 mcg) vitamin D3 per 2 softgels. DHA maternal intake contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus and breastfed infants. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg DHA in addition to the recommended 250 mg DHA and EPA for adults. We currently stock the Unflavoured 90-softgel bottle. Check with your midwife and avoid doubling up on vitamin D.

Does Nordic Naturals use pork gelatin?

Nordic Naturals says its standard softgels use bovine (beef) gelatin, not pork. Where fish gelatin is used, the label says so, as on the Omega-3 690 mg Fish Gelatin softgels we stock. Algae lines use plant-based capsules. Gummies vary by product, so check the label. We have not seen a halal certificate for the UK packs.

Nordic Naturals vs Holland & Barrett fish oil: how much EPA and DHA?

Holland & Barrett's own Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg lists 180 mg EPA + 120 mg DHA (300 mg) per capsule. Two Ultimate Omega softgels give 650 mg EPA + 450 mg DHA (1100 mg), which is about the same as 3–4 of those capsules. Compare by EPA+DHA per daily serving, not by the fish oil mg on the front of the pack.

Does Nordic Naturals fish oil contain mercury?

Nordic Naturals says every batch is tested by an independent lab for environmental toxins, including heavy metals such as mercury, and that you can request a Certificate of Analysis for any product. Its fish oils are made mainly from small fish (anchovies and sardines) or Arctic cod, and the brand says they are Friend of the Sea certified.

Is Nordic Naturals in triglyceride form?

Yes. Concentrates such as Ultimate Omega, Xtra and 2X are re-esterified triglyceride (rTG), and the less concentrated oils, such as Children's DHA cod liver oil, are natural triglyceride (TG). The form (rTG or TG) is printed next to total omega-3s on the supplement facts panel.
