What is the difference between Lucozade Energy and Lucozade Sport?

Lucozade Sport is a still isotonic drink with sodium (50 mg/100 ml), 6.3 g carbs and 3.5 g sugars per 100 ml and no caffeine. Lucozade Energy is a sparkling glucose drink with about 12 mg caffeine, 8.4–8.9 g carbs and around 4.5 g sugars per 100 ml. Sport is made for drinking while you train; Energy is a caffeinated soft drink.

Does Lucozade have caffeine?

Lucozade Energy does: Lucozade states about 12 mg caffeine per 100 ml, so roughly 60 mg in a 500 ml bottle (varies slightly by flavour). That is about a third of the caffeine of a cup of coffee per 100 ml, by Lucozade's own comparison. Lucozade Sport, including Orange, Raspberry and Ice Kick, contains no caffeine.

How much sugar is in Lucozade Sport?

UK panels for Sport Orange, Raspberry and Ice Kick show 3.5 g sugars per 100 ml. That is about 17.5 g sugars in a 500 ml bottle and about 26 g in a 750 ml bottle. Sport also contains the low-calorie sweeteners aspartame and acesulfame K.

How much sugar is in Lucozade Energy?

Lucozade Energy Original, Orange and Pink show 4.4–4.5 g sugars per 100 ml on current UK panels — about 22 g sugars per 500 ml bottle. Total carbohydrate is higher (8.4–8.9 g/100 ml) because glucose syrup also supplies glucose chains that are not counted as sugars. Energy is sweetened with sugar plus low-calorie sweeteners.

How many carbs are in Lucozade Sport 500ml and 750ml?

Lucozade Sport has 6.3 g carbohydrate per 100 ml, so a 500 ml bottle carries about 31 g carbs (around 135 kcal) and a 750 ml bottle about 47 g carbs (around 200 kcal). Lucozade's own labelling puts it at roughly 16 g carbohydrate per 250 ml serving.

Does Lucozade Sport have electrolytes?

Yes. Lucozade Sport lists 50 mg sodium per 100 ml (about 250 mg per 500 ml bottle), alongside glucose-based carbohydrate. Lucozade labels it an isotonic drink, and carbohydrate-electrolyte solutions enhance the absorption of water during physical exercise. Lucozade Energy is not sold as an electrolyte drink and has much less sodium.

Is Lucozade sugar free?

No — the standard Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Energy recipes contain sugar from glucose syrup plus sweeteners. Lucozade also makes separate Zero Sugar versions (for example Sport Zero Sugar at about 2 kcal per 100 ml, and Energy Zero, which still contains caffeine). The cases currently in stock at GymStack are the standard sugar-containing recipes.

Does Lucozade contain aspartame?

Some flavours do. Lucozade Sport (Orange, Raspberry, Ice Kick) and Lucozade Energy Pink list aspartame and acesulfame K and carry the statement “contains a source of phenylalanine”. Lucozade Energy Original and Orange currently list sucralose and acesulfame K instead. Check the bottle, as sweetener blends have changed over time.

What flavour is Lucozade Sport Ice Kick?

Ice Kick is a lemon and lime flavour Lucozade Sport, labelled as a lemon and lime flavour isotonic drink with sugars and sweeteners. Nutrition matches the other Sport flavours: 27 kcal, 6.3 g carbs, 3.5 g sugars and 50 mg sodium per 100 ml, with no caffeine. Some bottles carry Jude Bellingham edition branding.

Is Lucozade vegan and gluten free?

Lucozade says its drinks use no animal-derived ingredients and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and that it uses no ingredients containing gluten in Lucozade Energy. Current UK panels for Sport and Energy name none of the 14 UK allergens. Always read the label on the bottles you receive in case a recipe changes.

Can you drink Lucozade when pregnant?

Lucozade Sport contains no caffeine. Lucozade Energy has about 60 mg caffeine per 500 ml bottle, and the NHS advises keeping caffeine below 200 mg a day in pregnancy, counting coffee, tea, cola and chocolate too. Both drinks contain sugar. If you are unsure, check with your midwife or GP.

Can kids drink Lucozade?

Lucozade says Energy is not suitable for children under 3 because of its caffeine (about 12 mg per 100 ml). For Lucozade Sport, the brand says it is designed for adults who exercise and is not really suitable for under-16s, as the carbohydrate and sodium levels are set for an exercising adult; water is fine for children.
